The NBA Mural
In 2015, the NBA reached out to me about commissioning a new mural for the NBA offices in New York. They had a big blank wall, and they wanted to collaborate to put something nerdy and cool on it. I was thrilled and leapt at the chance; however, I didn’t have a great idea for what to build for them. We agreed that the mural needed to be analytical but interesting. We could do shot charts for Curry, LeBron, and Durant, but that seemed too narrowly focused. We wanted something that also paid tribute to the league’s overall dedication to analytics and data. After all, this would be on the wall in the league office for years to come.
